Team SPS is targeted to be a competitive national level amateur Jr & U23 trade team in 2022. Staff and core athlete group is in place, private sector partners are being sought to expand calendar and further create opportunities (Thank you Team Digital Commerce Bank of Quebec for the figure).
WHAT IS A TRADE TEAM?
A Trade Team is an incorporated or registered organization whose purpose is to promote itself, its sponsors and/or members through cycling events. SPS Athlete Development - Cycling Team is a trade team.
HOW ARE SPONSOR, DONOR, PARTNER, AND ATHLETE DOLLARS USED BY THE TEAM?
Your generous contributions allow the team to fulfill team's mission (on home page).
We are proud to say "we have skin in the game". Athletes and staff contribute toward teams annual budget, there are no free rides. We are all working towards a common mission.
Generated dollars are used to meet the operational and equipment needs of the team this year and beyond. We are working towards purchasing team tents, back up team clothing, in race car rentals items, team radio, cost is a barrier fund, bike boxes for travel, supplies and equipment that allow us to host bigger and better fundraising community events, website hosting, safety insurance, and prestigious race participation applications to name a few.
We are pursuing opportunities for our Saskatchewan youth to be competitive on the national and international cycling scene and doing it on a home Saskatchewan team.
WHAT DOES PRIVATE ENDURANCE COACHING COST?
At a national competitive level private cycling coaching ranges between $2000 & $5000 annually for each athlete based upon needs. SPS Athlete Development - Cycling Team has this service provided as an option to team members by one of our partners.
IS IT EXPENSIVE TO BE A CYCLING CANADA AFFILIATED TRADE TEAM? WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
Depends upon your perspective. Registration Fee and requirements are standardized for all teams, and standards do cost dollars.
Registration of Cycling Canada affiliated trade team requires $850/annum in 2022, requires team ownership to be an incorporated entity ~$2000 initial fees to be an incorporated and hold team liability
insurance ~$1000 or more per season.
Team athletes are expected to complete antidoping education course and a responsible sport participation course each year. Coaches, managers, mechanics, and staff are expected to complete criminal record checks, Directeur Sportif's must pass a Caravan drivers course. Team must present signed individual athlete/team agreements (contracts) to sport governing body (Cycling Canada) for approval.

ARE THERE ANY ORIENTATION TO CYCLING CLASSES? CYCLING SAFETY CLASSES?
Our team and club are advocates for the sport of cycling.
In spring we offer individual learn to ride sessions, and learn to race sessions for all levels of riders, as well as individual and team technical riding lessons on a case by case basis.
HOW COULD I JOIN TEAM SPS?
Contact SPS coach, followed by an assessment of desire to perform and support team, and skills level for best starting placement. Currently SPS Club and team size is limited by the number of coaches and instruction staff available to support athletes. As resources grow, ability to help more aspiring athletes and coaches grows.
WHY DO CYCLING TEAMS SEEM TO CHANGE THEIR NAME ALMOST EVERY YEAR? HOCKEY TEAMS DON'T DO THAT?
It is related to sponsorship. Sponsorship changes for many teams on a regular basis, hence name changes. Cycling races are held all over the continent sometimes in remote places week after week. Cycling team race travel and equipment can be costly.
We strive for strong relationships with like minded sponsors for name stability, however we realize company's ability to sponsor eternally may not be realistic therefore many sponsors at a comfortable level is our goal, and therefore the title sponsor could change from year to year based upon interest in the title sponsor position, and the nature of team cycling.
CAN YOU GO TO SCHOOL AND RACE A BIKE?
With SPS Athlete Development, yes you can. We value education and sports accomplishment together. We understand that through elite sport team participation we can foster qualities desired in our athletes that could make them great future corporate leaders and teammates.
